Vendée Globe

The Vendée Globe is a solo world tour sailing race, non-stop and without assistance. It is considered to be the hardest for sailors, often referred to as the Everest of sailing. The simplicity of its rules (solo, around the world, non-stop and without assistance) makes it an easy race for everyone to understand

For this event that is taking place every 4 years skippers sail on sailing yachts that meet the IMOCA gauge (60-foot or 18.28 m boats) The race starts from Les Sables-d'Olonne to come back after the passage of the 3 capes (Bonne Espérance, Leeuwin and Horn) after about 90 days of race. On the first 7 editions, out of 138 sailors who took the start, only 71 have managed to cross the finish line attesting the difficulty of the course for both men and equipment. In the last edition, Armel Le Cleac'h on Banque Populaire crossed the finish line first after 74 days and 3 hours of racing, beating the record for the event by more than 3 days, a record previously held by François Gabart on the 2012-13 edition.
