After obtaining your coastal license, you can take the offshore extension which will allow you to navigate at distances greater than 6 miles.

The offshore extension

The coastal option pleasure boat license, associated with the offshore extension, allows you to navigate at an unlimited distance from the coast. It allows you to operate a motorized pleasure boat with a power of more than 4.5 kilowatts (6 horsepower), to navigate at sea, on lakes and on enclosed waters, day and night, and therefore without any distance limit from a shelter or the coast.

Preparing for the exam

The candidate must be at least 16 years old and must have the coastal option boating license. You are not obliged to register in a training establishment since this test is only a theoretical test. It is therefore possible to prepare for it alone and to take the exam as an independent candidate.

Register for the exam

To take the exam, you must register either with a training center or directly with the services responsible for the pleasure craft license, within the delegation for the sea and the coastline.

The file must include the original coastal boating license, the cerfa form n°14680*01, a color passport photo and a 38 euro tax stamp for the exam registration fee.

The extension of the permit can be obtained from the prefect of the department in which the department responsible for the permit application has its headquarters, upon presentation of supporting documents.
