Is the Restricted Radiotelephony Certificate (CRR) still required with a VHF on board?

To be able to use the fixed VHF, mandatory on board vessels since 1 May 2015, the boater will be required to have the associated skills. So RRC or licence?

As part of the new maritime regulations, the new Division 240, which came into force on 1 January 2008, will be replaced by the new Division 240 er as of May 2015, some changes are to be taken into account in terms of the compulsory equipment of the boat. Indeed, fixed VHF is required from the mid-shore provisioning (from 6 miles) from 1 er january 2017. To be able to operate the radio, it is necessary to have the associated skills, i.e. to have :

  • the CRR (Radiotelephony Restricted Certificate); or
  • either the pleasure craft licence
