Video of an incredible encounter with five killer whales in paddle

Rich German, from Laguna Beach, California, had the chance to watch an extraordinary show up close, with five killer whales swimming right beside him.

The scene is spectacular and just incredible! Rich German was practicing stand-up paddle, when five killer whales approached, passing right next to him and even swimming under his board several times. Equipped with a go-pro camera, he was able to film the whole scene and broadcast his video on youtube, which has already produced more than 1,100,000 shots. He had already made several videos with other marine mammals (dolphins, whales...) and hoped to complete his collection with killer whales.

But this video is not so random because Rich German had heard that a group of killer whales had been spotted near the shore of Long Beach and was heading south. Seeing a group of boats looking at something in the water, he took a chance and approached to discover the animals.

Nevertheless, the improvised cameraman must have experienced some cold sweats in the vicinity of these killer whales, as he was alone on the board. Yet he confided "being too excited to be afraid" and "hope to raise public awareness about killer whales, whose population is declining and whose reputation has been damaged by the latest reports on killer whales in captivity." This afternoon, which he describes as "magical" will forever be etched in his memory. He adds "I've always had this dream, which was to see killer whales, and it came true a few days ago."
