Savannah the first super hybrid yacht in the world from Feadshipyard

Feadship, a leader in the construction of custom superyachts, has just launched Savannah, a yacht over 83 metres long that operates on a hybrid propulsion system.

It is 83.50 metres long and operates in a more ecological way, thanks to the combination of its streamlined hull and a hybrid propulsion system. The Savannah is a superyacht with a diesel engine, three generators and lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of nearly a million watts, which allows it to reduce its consumption by 30%.

Inspired by the 2010 Breathe concept, Savannah proves that it is possible to build a custom megayacht with a more profitable and cleaner propulsion system. The dynamic shape of its hull allows it to be very efficient at medium speed. It has only one main engine, unlike the two usual diesel engines. Power is transmitted through a central shaft line that connects the rear propeller, which is 40% larger than a normal propeller. Redundancy is ensured by the adequacy between it and the multi-directional, counter-rotating stern thruster. Combined with the power supplied by the propeller, the load on the propeller is only half that of a conventional double propeller, a yacht propeller. This results in higher efficiency and reduced vibration, and the stern thruster also ensures excellent manoeuvrability in marinas. "It's not the individual technologies used on Savannah that are new to the yachting world, but the way they have been combined." explains the owner's project manager, Ted McCumber. "Feadship has leveraged all the options available in the marine industry today to shape this innovative system. The possibility of choosing between diesel, diesel-electric or all-electric is truly exceptional" adds McCumber.

This technology has already been developed in Japan on passenger ships but has never been adapted to the comfort and technology required for a superyacht.

This "floating superstructure" was designed by CG Conception and Feasdhip and combines glass panels, polished stainless steel, aluminium and teak. Another feature of Savannah is its design and the way in which the owner's aft cabin is integrated on the main deck as a single giant room with an interior/exterior space. All the space between the pool and the living room is open air. Among the Savannah's facilities are a 9-metre swimming pool, an underwater room to admire the sea floor, an owner's bedroom, which can be transformed into a cinema, four large suites and a VIP cabin with balcony, as well as a garage.
