By sheltering from the wind, heat loss by convection (heat transfer) is avoided. To do this, one sits on board behind the soft top or the deckhouse, but also equips oneself with good, windproof clothing. Because the latter greatly increases the sensation of cold.
At sea, the temperature felt is very often lower than the real one because of the wind. For example, sailing at 6 knots against 10 knots of actual wind (an apparent wind of 16 knots), at a temperature of 0°C, gives you a sensation of - 14°C ! (temperature actually felt on parts of the body not protected by clothing).
