By publishing his video on his Facebook account, Laurent Lombard probably didn't think he would trigger such a public craze. His video has been shared many times and viewed more than 2 million times (1st video). And thanks to this buzz, the city of Cannes decided to act and clean up the area. With less than a month to go before the Cannes Film Festival, the publicity is bad! Indeed, the city cleared the area where the diver had filmed a few days before.
On the other hand, due to crisis communication, the Cannes town hall has made its own video of the Cannes seabed (2nd video). The mayor and his deputy explain that the city cleans the sea and that the place filmed by the diver is only a tiny part of the bay of Cannes. The rest of the bay is clean and they prove it to us by diving, camera in hand..
