Aston Martin launches into high-end yachting with a boat presented in Monaco

Aston Martin, in collaboration with Quintessence Yacht, and Mulder Design, is preparing to launch its first ever "Speedboat". The AM37 will be built in Southampton, by Quintessence Yacht and presented in September.

Aston Martin designed the AM37 in collaboration with Mulder Design, after being approached by Quintessence Yacht, whose founder owns an Aston. The first prototype is under construction and will be presented in September 2015, during the Monaco Yacht Show. Mariella Mengozzi, CEO of Quintessence Yacht said "Aston Martin Design worked seamlessly with Quintessence's R&D unit and naval architect Mulder Design in Amstelveen (Greater Amsterdam) to achieve a true example of design purity."

A trio to design a boat like a luxury car

In 2013, as Aston Martin approached its 100th anniversary, it tried to find a way to explore the connection between the soulful philosophy of their "beautiful and powerful" car and the high-end yachting sector. Quintessence Yacht was chosen as the partner for this venture, after being impressed by Aston Martin's concept and development proposals.

In its design phase, the AM37 had to be a power boat with excellent performance and handling capabilities. Therefore, Quintessence Yacht chose a designer and naval architect with extensive experience in fast yachts, who could share the key values of the project. Mulder Design proved to be the best possible choice by offering innovative design solutions and content.

The key to a Quintessence Yacht powerboat is the way a high-tech composite structure is combined with a sports car, bringing ease of handling, comfort and performance. The manufacturing process is based on the same high quality standards as luxury automotive brands, with the same attention to detail and design.

The lines of a luxury car for the AM37

Naval architect, Bas Mulder, brought his yachting experience to the design of the vacuum infusion composite hull. Combined with a carbon fiber structure, this provides the handling, performance and comfort of a luxury sports car.

The iconic Aston Martin winged emblem will be emblazoned on the rear skirt of the boat and on the steering wheel. In the cockpit, on the main deck, there will be two helm seats and a U-shaped bench seat behind. An option will include a voice-activated navigation and entertainment system.

Below the main deck, at the stern of the boat, in a compact space, there is a kitchenette and a U-shaped bench seat convertible into a double berth.

For the moment, Aston Martin is not expected to use one of its naturally aspirated engines, although the brand has not ruled out the possibility of using a V8 engine in the future. Its maximum speed will be between 44 and 52 knots depending on its engine.
