Cauta, a luxurious sailboat inspired by the albatross

Timur Bozca is a designer specializing in the design of all kinds of vehicles. Last February, he unveiled a new futuristic sailboat project, Cauta, for which he won the "Young Designer of the Year" award.

This 55-meter sailing yacht was designed to meet the needs of an offshore sailing program anywhere in the world. "Giving new perspectives to the yachting world" this is the specification according to which Cauta was created. Thus, its designer defines it as " provocative, dynamic, futuristic and unique."

A high-performance, futuristic and comfortable yacht

Cauta is a lightweight high performance yacht with a carbon fiber hull and structure. Its glittering "Elite Supernova Silver" color, unique look and innovative lines are symbolic of technology. Presented as a new class of yacht, the Cauta can cross the Atlantic in a very short time, while benefiting from the most luxurious interior design. It is at the crossroads of luxury and performance, allowing fast sailing in absolute comfort. She benefits from an innovative navigation system, Dynarig: two self-supporting and rotating masts which accommodate 10 sails, completely maneuverable by one man. It is powered by a diesel/electric engine and has three Caterpillar C12.9 generators, which drive a Siemens electric motor. This increases its energy efficiency, reduces noise and vibration, and also reduces consumption.

To design Cauta, Timur Bozca was inspired by an albatross. The design was carefully studied to blend sensual and aerodynamic lines.

A design for a longer life on board

The Cauta is a yacht dedicated to long-distance sailing, so a lot of comfort had to be provided. " Owners and their children will be required to spend extended periods of time on board." The design and layout of the exterior spaces were therefore crucial. A large open flybridge was a necessity. Instead of guardrails, a high freeboard provides optimal safety on the boat and becomes both a coaming (deck stiffener and vertical barrier around the deck and its openings to prevent water from entering the lower levels) and a bulwark (part extending the hull planking above the deck.) Thus, when on deck, one is safer than with a "Toe-Rail" (a narrow strip that runs along the edges of the deck of a boat. Inside this space, there are several living areas: a large cockpit, a dining room, and a rest area with sunbathing. The aft cabin can be transformed into a wading pool for children to splash around in safety.

With a design philosophy that relies on lightness, it was important to provide as little detail as possible. Thus, the owner wanted a rich, sophisticated and unique interior ambience. To achieve this balance between modernity and comfort, LEDo [organic light-emitting diode] technology was used.

The lower deck is designed to accommodate 10 guests and 8 crew members. The owner's bedroom is installed at the rear of the boat, across the full width of the hull. Designed with an aquatic theme, it includes a large living room with a multi-functional desk with surface display, a bathroom with a rain shower system, and a dressing room. Unlike traditional yachts, the master and guest cabins have a view of the exterior and allow for underwater viewing through monolithic polycarbonate wall and floor panels [transparent panels].
