The Unique Circle Yacht, a superyacht with an intertwined structure

Designer and architect Zaha Hadid designed this superyacht prototype for the German shipyard Blohm+Voss. The first of a series of five yachts, its all-loop design is rather unprecedented in the boat industry.

Unique Circle Yacht is a prototype of a 128 m long yacht, with a sculptural shape. This concept was designed by the architect Zaha Hadid for the German shipyard Blohm+Voss, designer of the "A" and the Eclipse. It is the first of a family of five yachts of 90 m each. Thus, this spectacular yacht is created with circles and "twisted" shapes that create waves all over the surface of the boat. Rounded or elliptical shapes are in the spotlight, both on the outside and the inside.

The overall design is inspired by fluid dynamics and marine ecosystems. Hydrodynamic research inspired the hull. The exoskeleton structure of the upper section is an intertwined network of supports that vary in thickness and lend a natural aesthetic to the exterior of the boat. This design evokes the organic structural systems of natural marine formations and connects the different levels and decks of the vessel seamlessly via diagonals. The Unique Circle Yacht creates a break from traditional boat designs, which adhere to a strict horizontal shape.

From this superyacht, the designer created four other smaller models with a length of 90 meters. On the smaller models, this interlacing of circles can be found, but only in touches. The hull remains that of a yacht.

The interior design is the same as the exterior. There are curved walls, rounded shapes, with large windows and skylights. Added to the white color, the result evokes the purity and softness of a cocoon.
