Video / The HMNZS Otago patrol boat in a storm

This short video shows the New Zealand Navy patrol vessel HMNZS OTAGO caught in a storm in the Southern Ocean.

This video shows the offshore patrol vessel HMNZS OTAGO caught in the middle of a storm in the Southern Ocean. On the menu: 20 m waves and 80 kms/h winds. Despite the boat's impressive dimensions (85 m long, 14 m wide and 1,900 tons), we can see it being buried under a huge wave, obscuring visibility of the cockpit for a moment. In any case, the storm doesn't seem to have frightened the sailors on board, who can be heard laughing as the foredeck is submerged.

HMNZS OTAGO is one of the New Zealand Navy's two offshore patrol vessels. Her mission is to patrol, monitor and assist over long distances around New Zealand, in the Southern Ocean and in the Pacific.
