Optipon, a plywood initiation dinghy

Optipon of the Florence shipyard

The Optipon will undoubtedly be the smallest sailboat presented as a novelty at the Grand Pavois in La Rochelle 2016. A very simple unit to give the desire to sail to the little ones.

If it takes up the Optimist's sail, the Optipon has a much more modern hull. Even if they are the same size (2.35 m), there is no marotte on the Optipon, but a very trendy pointed reversed bow.

The bottom of this plywood dinghy is doubled to form unsinkability boxes (and stiffen the construction). The transom is open to empty this self-draining cockpit. No bench or seat, but a bulwark that surrounds the whole boat to reassure the young crews, but does not bother those who want to abseil out.

Built by the Florence Shipyard (in Plouër sur Rance in the 22nd arrondissement), this small introductory sailing boat completes a range of dinghy boats with the Patapon, a kind of competitor to the Laser for young people and the P4 for adults. All of them, of course, made of plywood.

The Optipon will be presented at the next Grand Pavois in La Rochelle 2016. It is available finished, but you can also buy the plans to start amateur construction.
