Exclusive / Storm Zeus, call me hurricane

Spectacular pictures of Zeus in the harbours of the Crozon peninsula.

The Zeus storm which has just crossed France has caused a lot of damage in Brittany. In particular, Météo France recorded speed records in Finistère with a peak of 193 km/h in Camaret, an absolute wind record for this coastal town. In Ouessant, the wind record was also beaten, with a peak at 190 km/h on Monday morning. On the island of Groix, winds of 179 km/h were measured.

If the wind is more than 118 km/h on average over 10 minutes, it is a Beaufort force 12, i.e. a hurricane. Keraunos, the French Observatory of storms and tornadoes, points out that "this Monday, March 6, 2017, with 119 km/h of wind average over 10 minutes, the stage of the hurricane (force 12 Beaufort) was reached in Ushant".

A lot of damage was done.

À Camaret , Morgat or au Fret Many damages were reported, with pontoons adrift, connecting gangways torn off, dry boats lying on their sides. Even the semaphore of the Toulinguet stopped its watch for a few minutes.
