It took two years to produce a finished product, developed at the Tribord World Design Centre in Hendaye. It is in this huge space where the 200 employees of Decathlon's"Water Sports" department - divided between specialist stores and offices - are grouped together that the 23 employees of Tribord - Décathlon's sailing sports brand.
In the huge open space reserved for sailing (the building is divided between the various water sports that swimming, paddle, diving, etc..) are grouped product managers, engineers, or designers, who work on the development and improvement of products. Because at Tribord, there is only one watchword innovation !
We visited this World Design Centre and discovered the development process of the Ocean 900 jacket, a technical watch jacket, which will be released in July 2017, developed in collaboration with skipper Tanguy de Lamotte.
Thanks to his experience and his intense practice of sailing, he was able to make product lifts to make the jacket evolve and bring it practicality and innovations. An evolution that we suggest you discover through our report.
Part 1: Developing a watch jacket: the specification
It is the product manager, through market research and brainstorming, who defines the product creation or evolution needs. We suggest you discover the job of product manager and the definition of the specifications of the Ocean jacket.
Part 2: The process of creating a watch jacket
At Tribord, Audrey Goulard, sail textile product engineer, is in charge of the Ocean 900 jacket design process. She works in collaboration with product managers, engineers, designers, stylists... to design prototypes and arrive at the finished product.
Part 3: Situational tests before starting production
Once the basic shape has been established, the team then works on the details - such as the collar, hood, sleeves - before testing the almost finished product in the laboratory and in the field.
