Lagoon announces two new catamarans for September

Lagoon 50

The power of the Lagoon shipyard will strike again. At the next Cannes Motor Show in September 2017, we will be able to discover two new products! If the characteristics of the two cruise catamarans are still secret, we were able to learn more about these 2 future boats.

Different positioning

Lagoon will release 2 new models: a 40 and a 50 with a positioning in the range for each of them.

The 40 will replace the 39 launched in 2012 and which cohabited with the old 400 (launched in 2009). By using elements from 42 (2016), the 40 will be a "small 42" rather than a "big 39".

For its part, the 50 fills a hole in the range between 450 and 52. Indeed, for many customers, the 52 (new range) is too big to handle with a small crew. The 2m gap with the 450 will be occupied by the future 50.

Adoption of the new rigging

Since 2012 and the launch of Lagoon 39 and 52, the site has asked the VPLP architectural firm to design a new sail plan for them. By relying on a new nacelle structure, they were able to move the mast backwards from the front beam and thus adopt a very retreated sail plan like that found on ocean racing multihulls.

The mainsail is very narrow and takes the shape of a wing, while the jib surface is increased, offering the advantage of being self-steering to simplify its use. Wear sails (code 0 and gennaker) can be installed on one end outside.

The new 40 and 50 will both adopt this new sail plan.

A redesigned cockpit

After the launch of the 39 and 52, Lagoon launched the 42 (2016) which distinguished itself with a large cockpit with access with just 2 steps from the skirt. This limits the different levels and makes it easier to travel on board. This new cockpit, which was a little lacking on the 39, is now adopted for the future 40 and 50.

The signature of a major architectural firm

Relying on the VPLP architecture firm, Lagoon seeks the sporting competence of design but also the ability to explore new paths such as rigging. Patrick Le Quément is also involved in the external design part. The hulls with inverted bows and angular lines that run to the rear are the signature of this designer.

Increased glass surfaces

On both 40 and 50, the surface area of the shell plating glazing was further increased. The windows are longer. This will give even brighter cabins with a view of the outside (the famous "sea view") from the sleeping area really incredible.
