The Outcut 29.5, the catamaran with folding and transportable motor

Outcut 29.6, the folding power catamaran

The Outcut 29.5 is the first motor catamaran from the Italian shipyard of the same name. Thanks to its variable width, it is easily transportable and does not require any space at the port. It is available in two versions - cruiser or open - and has a very different look, which can be questioned. With its three types of propulsion, it can be adapted to various navigation programs.

The Italian company Outcut has just produced its first motor boat - the Outcut 29.5 - after four years of research. This 9 m long catamaran is characterized by its variable width, allowing it to go from a width of 3.5 m to 2.5 m. This also makes it towable on a trailer.

"I embarked on the Outcut 29.5 project with the vision of a new nautical concept that goes beyond the limits and overcomes the stereotypes of traditional boating. I like to think of waking up on the Côte d'Azur and having dinner in Croatia with my family, without a crew, without a boating licence* and without port constraints. This is my idea of freedom" explains Pietro Carrieri, founder of the innovative business project.

* In Italy, its 2x20 HP motorization does not require a boat license (a boat with a power of less than 40 HP can be helmed without a boat license within a radius of less than 6 miles from the coast). However, this is not the case in France, where a boat licence is compulsory from 6 HP upwards.

A towable and foldable catamaran

The Outcut 29.5 is a towable and folding catamaran with variable width. Thanks to the DHR (Dynamic Hull Range) system, the width of the hulls in the water increases from 3.5 to 2.5 m in only 90 seconds and without reducing habitability. It is therefore easy to transport, but also takes up little space at the dock. Nevertheless, when the floats are folded up, the living space does not change, maintaining the same comfort on board. Note its rather futuristic and rather angular design, which can seduce or on the contrary repel. Once again, from the first photos, the interior layout looks simple and uncluttered, but sufficient for a short cruise.

The hulls have been designed for maximum fluid-dynamic efficiency and are manufactured in composite materials under vacuum to make the most of the weight/mechanical performance ratio. Equipped with watertight compartments, they are unsinkable. Groundable, the boat has a draught of 30 cm and a weight of 1400 kg.

The deck is free of all technical elements and facilitates the passage from the sunbathing area (at the front) to the cockpit, where the cockpit is located. Note the absence of a saloon or benches in this space, forcing passengers to stay indoors for meals.

The hulls house fresh water tanks, fuel tanks, batteries and two large 100-litre peaks. The cockpit is equipped with two other large 520-litre peaks.

"We've miniaturized a 14-meter cruiser and maximized its efficiency without sacrificing performance or comfort. This is the synthesis of our design work. We have freed users from the limits. Now it's their turn to design new scenarios of use. Our ambition was to develop an innovation that could be used without partitioning constraints or preconceived scenarios. That's what freedom is all about." - adds Rocco Carrieri, designer of Outcut 29.5.

Two versions for maximum living space

The Outcut 29.5 is available in two versions:

Cruiser In this habitable version, the boat is fitted out with 4 berths. A cabin at the bow with a large double bed (160x210 cm) and a saloon with a table for six guests which converts into a double bed (140x190 cm). A bathroom with shower completes the ensemble and the saloon can also be equipped with a built-in kitchen with sink and two-burner hob.

Open In this version, ideal for a day trip, there is no cabin, only a bathroom, armchairs and a roof serving as a sunbathing platform.

The boat is presented as luminous by the shipyard thanks to two side portholes and the window on the bow, a characteristic that can be questioned in view of the first photos.

The Outcut 29.5 can accommodate 10 passengers on board and has several areas dedicated to relaxation, such as sunbathing on the roof or the trampoline at the front. Its modular system, which can be freely configured according to needs, adapts to the owners and is updated over time. The Outcut 29.5 can even be customised in terms of colour by choosing its own combination of tones for the hulls, the base of the living area and the deck.

Several types of engines

The catamaran is equipped with thermal, electric or auxiliary sail propulsion. Three types of engines are available: 2x20, 2x30 and 2x40 HP. With the two 20 HP outboard engines, it reaches a maximum speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots. With an electric propulsion (recommended for this type of boat) it reaches the top speed of 15 knots, which guarantees a zero emission, but above all silent navigation.

Finally, the Outcut 29.5 can be equipped with an auxiliary sail with simplified and efficient rigging to provide as much fun as a performance increase of more than 30%.

The catamaran is sold from 100 000 euros. Dealers are still being developed, but customers can approach the yard for information.
