Tivano is Halïotis 38, an integral dinghy. Arrived in Madeira after a crossing from Portugal without concern, an enormous shock alerted the crew... The drift was taking off.
Little details from Pierre, the skipper and father of this pretty family, about the loss of the drift:
The VTP control pulley pin broke. It is this rope which makes it possible to go up and down the daggerboard. More restrained, the daggerboard fell and went into stall position, position used only when one wants to disassemble the daggerboard !
When she fell, she came and violently hit the bottom of the hull, which made us realize that there was a problem. Fortunately we were going to enter a port, so we were able to get on a pontoon quickly.
Once calm, Pierre checked the hull, fortunately there was no damage. But the daggerboard hung under the boat at the end of a safety line!
To prevent this problem from recurring, Pierre replaced the broken pulley with a friction ring held by a transfilage.
An operation that was done with Pierre underwater and Guillaume (the passing crew member) at the manoeuvres. Between them, they put this new system back in place in one afternoon.
Bravo for this"maintenance" live and long road to Tivano !
