IMOCA Hugo Boss in flight in Lisbon

Alex Thomson flew his IMOCA Hugo Boss IMOCA as he and his crew sailed off Cascais, Portugal in rough seas with a top speed of 33.2 knots. Splendid images, produced by the Mirpuri Foundation.

Challenges as crazy as ever

Alex Thomson is a hothead, known for his exploits on his IMOCA Hugo Boss ... Aficionados of the most extreme challenges, we first of all had more fun with " The Keel Walk "A challenge to climb the keel of his IMOCA boat on a completely sloping keel. Next came " The Mast Walk "A spectacular ascent along the mast of his 60-foot monohull, ending with a plunge into the Atlantic Ocean. Then in the summer of 2016 - still dressed in his impeccable black suit, Hugo Boss obliges -, the Welsh skipper took off 85 m high in kitesurfing, attached by a rope at the top of the mast, a video entitled " The SkyWalk ".

He returns in a video filmed on 8 November 2017 off the coast of Cascais in Portugal. Sailing in winds of 23 to 30 knots, where Alex Thomson and his crew reached the incredible speed of 33.2 knots in choppy seas... The images were made by the Mirpuri Foundation and are splendid. We see the sailboat take off on its foils and fly... "Quite an intense session" as the crew had fun describing it.

Hugo Boss and Alex Thomson, an enduring partnership

However, Alex Thomson is nonetheless a good sailor, as he demonstrated in the last 2016/2017 Vendée Globe, including he finished 2nd ...behind Armel the Cleac'h. He has also set many records on this solo round-the-world trip around the globe : Ecuador record , Single-handed 24-hour distance record in monohull racing but also the Cape of Good Hope Record .

These fine performances have no doubt prompted his loyal sponsor since 2003 - Hugo Boss - to renew his partnership for the next Vendée Globe campaign (which will take place in 2020). The question now is whether the English skipper will benefit from a new boat for the start of Everest des Mers, which he now hopes to win.
