France dominates the world windsurfing scene

The last stage of the Funboard World Cup ended on Sunday 26 November, after six days of competition in New Caledonia (Airwaves Nouméa Dream Cup). The French confirmed their leadership a little more with the victory of Delphine Cousin in women's and Antoine Albeau in men's. The latter thus won a 24th World Champion title, while the young Frenchwoman won the title of Vice World Champion.

Another French duo, Pierre and Marion Mortefon, also appeared on the podium. The siblings climbed to third place on the podiums of the men's and women's events and won the bronze medal in the world ranking.

"I am really very proud of the French Team and the French athletes! We couldn't have dreamt of a better time for this World Cup final, where the wind was blowing. The French Team knew how to exploit it to the maximum and manage the opponents for a beautiful finish: Antoine made strong and won his 24th world title, while Delphine fought until the end to be World Vice-Champion. Very nice satisfaction for Pierre and Marion who are both on the world podiums! Finally, more generally, the French showed that they were to be counted on throughout the season. It is a very beautiful year, and I thank all the staff: Stéphane Krause, Julien Magurno, David Lanier, but also the team of physiotherapists!" said Didier Flamme, Manager of the French Team.

"I'm very happy with this victory! I had taken a nice option before I arrived, but we know that everything can happen. Winning the event is the icing on the cake! Nouméa is really the biggest event of the season and we had great conditions. We really fought with Matteo Iachino, it was not won at all. In the end, it went well for me, and I'm glad. For the overall world ranking, we were a few points behind Pierre Mortefon and Matteo Iachino. There was a little stress before the event, but now I'm enjoying it."
