When sailing becomes a vector of dreams and emotion...

They were 55 film producers from twelve different countries who submitted a sailing video for this first Mirabaud Sailing Video Award. A competition won by the Swiss Roman Brunisholz with a video that mixes "emotion and beautiful images with a strong message." The Special Jury Prize goes to a great French sailor, Kito de Pavant, for his video made during the Vendée Globe.

Strengthening the Mirabaud Group's presence in the digital world

The Mirabaud Group has been involved in sailing events at the highest level for over ten years. In 2017, the Group launched a competition for sailing videos, produced during the year by professional filmmakers, but also by the sailors themselves during their races. The Mirabaud Sailing Video Award is therefore a logical follow-up to the sea photography competition "Le Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image.

A competition for sailing film professionals..

This first edition of this great competition for the best sailing videos produced during the year 2017 met with the expected success. Indeed, the international sailing community and television professionals from all over the world enthusiastically welcomed this new competition. Fifty-five producers submitted a video. Films viewed by hundreds of thousands of people on social networks and on the event's website.

The winner of the competition is the Swiss television producer Roman Brunisholz from Cocoon Productions. His video features a 10-year-old girl, Marie, who is racing as an optimist and dreams of ocean racing, the Vendée Globe, rounding Cape Horn... As she races, mocked by her friends for her desire for bigger things, she imagines herself at sea, taking part in the Everest of the Seas, when she crosses the path of Alan Roura, who sends her a strong message " Don't listen to others, and above all, trust yourself!"

"It's an original and inspiring video that connects the dreams of a young sailor with the reality of the elite sailor and shows that if you dare to dream you can make anything come true." says America's Cup producer Denis Harvey, a member of the international jury.

"The film Optimism clearly shows how motivated sailors inspire our youth." confirms Gary Jobson, Vice President of World Sailing and member of the international jury.

"When I discovered the competition and watched the other videos, featuring big events like the America's Cup or the Vendée Globe, I thought I had to do something completely different. So I made a video clip that tells a human story and generates strong emotions: the length (1'30 max) made it a real challenge, but it was fun, I'm absolutely amazed by this victory, I can't believe it and I'm very grateful to the jury who voted for my video" said Brunisholz

...but also for the sailors filming their race performance..

Open to professional filmmakers, the Mirabaud Sailing Video Award also celebrates the sailors who film their exploits during the regattas, through the "Special Jury Prize"

This prize goes to Kito de Pavant, thanks to his spectacular video entitled "The Ocean is not big enough" showing the whale responsible for the damage and the capsizing of his IMOCA Bastide Otio.

"I loved this clip because it's raw and emotional. There is no need for words or dramatic music to illustrate the danger and the skippers worst nightmare, you can feel the pain and pure disappointment on Kito's face", explains Melissa Payne, Vice President IMG.
