Dufour enters the catamaran market

The Dufour shipyard took advantage of the Paris boat show to launch its new brand Dufour Catamarans. The first model will be a 48-footer, a model of which could be seen at the show.

Designed by Umberto Felci, this catamaran has a modern design with inverted bows and a fairly well integrated deckhouse line. No forward cockpit but a large fly with the helm station framed by a large sofa and a sunbathing area under the boom. The helm station has a small motoryacht connotation with a helm seat from motoryacht. All the manoeuvres are gathered in the centre of the fly, directly from the mast avoiding the multiple cross-references. Access to the fly can be from the cockpit via starboard or from the port side catwalk.

The mast is set back enough to offer a modern sail plan with a large self-tacking jib and a small, narrow, high mainsail. The model also had a bowsprit which prefigures the possibility of fitting a gennaker.

The model has a fairly high gondola (to avoid the shock of the waves). The dinghy can be installed on davits or launched with a submersible platform that also serves as a bathing platform between the 2 hulls.

The cockpit, on the same level as the saloon, offers a nice table for lunch. The plancha, now a Dufour trademark, already equips all the monohulls in the Grand Large range.

With 3 separate descents (one on port and 2 on starboard), the layout is available in 4 or 5 cabins, plus a skipper's cabin in the forepeak. In 4 cabins, there are 2 master suites and 2 guest cabins. A toilet and storage space for the crew are also available. This space becomes cabin n°5 with 2 single bunk beds in the 5 cabin configuration.

With large hull portholes and a step in the catwalks, which are also glazed, the cabins seem bright and well ventilated. Note also the opening towards the skirts in the aft cabins.

Announced at nearly 15 tonnes, no sail area has yet been specified for this catamaran. It is still too early to give any opinion on the performance of this yacht, but discover the video with the first 3D images that make you want to embark for a nice and comfortable cruise.
