Multihull Trophy, it's becoming clearer

As we announced in October 2017, the Multihull Trophy, which appeared in the 1980s but was quickly stopped, will be reborn in 2018. We now know a little more about the dates, the programme and the expected participants

The Multihull Trophy will take place from Tuesday, August 28 to Friday, August 31, 2018 in Quiberon Bay. This regatta, reserved for multihulls, as its name suggests, will bring together trimarans over thirty metres, ex-ORMAs, MOD-70s, Multi2000 and Diam24 class multihulls, as well as flying catamarans, at La Trinité/mer or at the École Nationale de Voile et des Sports Nautiques (ENVSN), in Saint-Pierre-Quiberon.

Since the official announcement of the race at the Nautic de Paris 2017, the dates of the Multihull Trophy have now been confirmed. To take into account the 2018 race calendar and the availability of crews, the last week of August has been chosen. The weekends will be used to transport the boats to La Trinité/mer and Beg Rohu, while the 4 weekdays will be dedicated to the regattas.

Five groups of boats

The multihulls have been grouped according to their size and type and will be distributed in two different locations. All the groups - except Group 4 - will be grouped together in the port of La Trinité/Mer. Group 4, the Flying Boat Group, will be hosted at the National Sailing and Water Sports School in Beg Rohu.

  • Group 1: ocean-going trimarans over thirty metres,
  • Group 2: ex-ORMA, ex-MOD and similar between 15 and 30 metres,
  • Group 3: multihulls of the Multi2000 gauge between 35 and 60 feet,
  • Group 4 : hydrofoil catamarans (type GC32, Easy to Fly, Nacra 17 and Nacra 20, Flying Phantom...)
  • Group 5: Diam24

Coastal courses and runs

The big trimarans will start the Multihull Trophy with a 24 hour course from the Bay of Quiberon, via the Cardinals and then towards the Bay of Biscay to return via the channel of La Teignouse. The other ocean-going multihulls will complete two coastal courses around the islands of Houat, Hoëdic, Belle-Île and Groix on Tuesday 28th and Wednesday 29th August. The last two days will be dedicated to races around the Bay of Quiberon.

For four days, the flying catamarans will make alternating "runs" of speed and coastal courses between the Quiberon peninsula and LaTrinité/mer. Finally, the Diam24s will perform bay tours, speed runs, demonstrations in the harbour..

A village to follow this great "gathering"..

The public will be able to follow the exits and entrances to the port of La Trinité/Mer of these multihulls which will take place every day from 9 am and from 4 pm. They will also be able to see the boats racing as they pass through the peaks along the Morbihan coast.

The race village will be set up close to the Caradec pier where the ocean-going multihulls and Diam24s will be moored in the old port. This will be an opportunity for visitors to attend the daily prize-giving ceremony for each round raced or to rub shoulders with the crews.
