A modern and sporty "SUV
After more than 20 years of good and loyal service, Zodiac has decided to give its flagship model, the Pro Open 550, a facelift. A model sold in excess of 2,000 units, which has seduced generations of boaters with its adventurous style and modularity. Still in this "SUV" of the seas spirit, Zodiac is launching its successor, the Open 5.5, the smallest model in the range (5.5 m) and little brother of the Open 7, which we discovered at Crouesty (then at the Grand Pavois) in 2017. An Open 6.5 will complete the range this winter.
The French shipyard has completely redesigned the boat to offer a brand new model: a new hull with a deep V hull for better marine qualities, lots of storage space on board, a baroud and modern look and optimized seating..
"The Open 5.5 is a versatile, sporty and very seaworthy boat with lots of storage space. The deck layout has also been optimised in terms of seating space to accommodate up to 12 people on board. It is a boat for day trips, fishing, water sports (water skiing, wake...), up to the stroll and idleness with its sunbathing in front" explains Sébastien Grimaud, head of communication for the Zodiac Nautic group.
It is available in hypalon-neoprene or strongan (fabric specifically developed by Zodiac) and has a maximum engine power of 130 HP (40 knots at maximum speed).
Comfort on board
The Open 5.5 is above all a comfortable boat with the possibility of transforming the foredeck into a sunbathing area to enjoy a moment of relaxation in the sun. The rear seatbacks (3 seats with adjustable seats) and bolster are equipped with lateral stowage compartments to increase comfort (and safety) when sailing, especially in rough seas.
Other comfort features include the possibility of installing a 54 L cooler under the bolster or the T-Top to protect against the sun or rain. Finally, the tilting console is protected by a wrap-around windscreen for greater driving comfort. The rear platforms make it easier to get down and back on board and increase the space available to move aft.
Large storage spaces
Despite its small size, this semi-rigid has many storage solutions. As under the bolster which offers an integrated storage of 20 L or in the hold (access from the central console) which allows to store fishing or wake gear with a capacity of 780 L. Finally, there are still two chests in the back.
Accessorize your boat
Depending on your activities, you can choose a fishing pack (Multifix range) with rod holders, decoy holders and other cup holders or accessorize your Open 5.5 with a roll-bar/ski mast for towed water sports.
Come and try it from June 8 to 10
For the launch of its Open 5.5, Zodiac is launching its "Demo Days", days that will allow you to discover and test the boat from June 8 to 10, 2018. 10 models will be in the water with different configurations and engines.
The opportunity also to participate in the Zodiac School with workshops on fishing, launching, piloting, maintenance..
