Nemo 50 Ice, a polar superyacht inspired by military ships

The French shipyard Ocea, specialist in military ship design, launches a polar exploration superyacht project, the Nemo 50 Ice. This 50 m megayacht is designed for exploring distant lands while carrying a phenomenal quantity of toys on board.

Nemo range, sport utility yachts

Nemo 50 Ice is a megayacht project developed by the Ocea shipyard - specialist in aluminium shipbuilding. Based in France, Océa also builds a range of motorcycles built in Les Sables-d'Olonne.

The Nemo range today consists of 3 models, sports utility yachts. These multi-purpose yachts are designed for transoceanic navigation, but also house many toys such as dinghies, submarines, kayaks and even helicopters or cars. Nemo 50 Ice will be the 4th e model of the range after 300 GT, 499 GT and 900 GT, but the only one with polar specificity.

Sailing in Antarctica

It is to adapt to the dreams of owners wishing to sail on the Antarctic continent that the Ocea shipyard had the idea to develop NEMO ICE, a 50 m megayacht with a gross tonnage of 499 GT. The yacht will be built according to the rules of ice certification. That is, it has a reinforced structure and technical equipment enabling it to navigate in ice-covered waters.

Design inspired by military ships

Designed by Italian designer Fulvio de Simoni, the concept, design and construction features of Nemo Ice reflect Ocea's DNA, whose core business is the design and construction of military vessels.

The Nemo Ice is capable of exploring the high seas and the most remote places on the planet while ensuring the greatest comfort for its owners for long periods, even during extreme sailing. For example, tenders, rigid hull inflatable boats or landing craft can be launched and recovered using dedicated equipment. Nemo Ice's davits are exactly the same as those installed on the French shipyard's military vessels.

A large toy garage

On board, there is a raised technical area located at the stern (instead of the cockpit) which communicates directly with the main saloon. Located less than one meter above the waterline, it allows customers to quickly launch the toys they need. An outdoor, but protected space also allows owners to enjoy the outdoors while being protected from bad weather.

A lower deck reserved for machinery and crew

The engine room is spacious and well ventilated. Each piece of equipment and apparatus is easily accessible by technical personnel for emergency response. There is also a fully equipped 6 m² workshop and a control room with all the remote control systems necessary for the ship's operation, as well as a"manual mode" in case of emergency. This area is directly accessible from the crew quarters, via a central passage on the lower deck. On the one hand to maximize the efficiency and speed of the actions and on the other hand, to improve the comfort and privacy of guests.

The shafts are structurally protected, as are the propellers and rudders, to avoid being damaged in the event of impacts with an iceberg or partially submerged objects. A typical construction of yachts built by Ocea.

A comfortable and spacious living area

The living area has been designed for maximum comfort for long stays on board. The owner's cabin is the full width of the boat and is located forward of the main deck. There is a private lounge that can be used either as a relaxation area or as a work area. There is also a large bathroom and the possibility of installing a sauna.

The living spaces are spacious, for example the large open central area of the main deck.

The crew quarters have also been designed so that the personnel can live comfortably on board. Indeed, on a 50 m yacht and for distant destinations, the crew is essential. Thus, the space has been arranged so that everyone can easily perform their duties (technicians, on-board personnel, captain, etc.).
