Jeanneau will unveil at Cannes (11-16 September 2018) two new versions in its Leader range, express sports and family: the Leader 30 and Leader 33 outboard versions. A choice explained to us by the Vendée boatyard's product marketing manager.

Jeanneau continues to reconcile cruising and outboard motorisation on boats longer than 10 m thanks to the range of engine manufacturers who offer increasingly powerful engines. After the launch of the Merry Fisher 1095 at the Nautic 2017, which is off to a very strong start in France and abroad, two other"big" models will now be available as outboards: the Leader 30 and Leader 33 - 9.34 m and 10.44 m respectively. The Leader 30 will be offered in 2x175 CH and the Leader 33 in 2x200 or 2x225 CH.

"We are in the same logic and the same movement, in France, as abroad, to go towards the outboard and big outboard market. Until now, construction sites have been blocked by engine technology. When going up in boat size, it was necessary to multiply the engines as we see it in the United States, a practice which is not widespread in the culture of all the countries. Today, engine manufacturers are releasing new engines, such as Yamaha and its 425 hp capable of pushing big boats." explains Vincent Piel, product manager for Jeanneau motor boats.

The Leader range - Sports and Family Express - therefore offers its two smaller models in an inboard version. A choice explained Martin Meyer, in charge of Jeanneau's Leader range.

"This is a market trend that is seen in the United States on much larger units and has several advantages for the customer. First, a financial gain of 5 to 10% compared to inboard. The comfort then since the outboards are much quieter than before and arranged on the stern of the boat, are quieter than the inboard. Finally, reduced maintenance costs with worldwide access to the outboard dealer network, which is not the case for inboard, especially for large exports. On the other hand, the efficiency of the outboard is interesting in terms of consumption."

The layout will remain the same, but with more storage space, gained by the absence of engine chock. This space saving also enabled the Leader 30 to add an additional fuel tank (2x300 L).

"Outside, the platform has been adapted to accommodate outboard engines, but the functionality remains the same. "We keep the platforms around the outboards and we move easily from port to starboard on the bathing beach." explains Martin Meyer.
