Web series / La Vivacia, a rowing sail under construction with Lucas

How to build a 4.50 m rowing sail in your garage? That is the story Lucas is telling us today. A story that we will follow as it progresses.

Lucas, a carpenter by trade, starts building a 4.50 m rowing sailboat. The Beg-Meil is a plan by François Viver studied for amateur construction. This small traditional sloop is an open canoe with a steel daggerboard.

The construction of this sailboat combines the use of plywood and epoxy resin, with that of traditional wood construction (solid wood).

This is precisely what attracted Lucas to this adventure. Not a sailor at all, he discovered the sea by doing a 9-month internship in Rennes. He spent every weekend by the sea, attracted by boats. Today installed near the lake of Der in champagne (very far from the sea!), he wanted to build his boat.

The architect François Vivier advised him on the ideal model so that the construction would meet his expectations and the boat would then be adapted to his programme.

Indeed, Lucas likes to work wood, especially by hand with his saw, his plane and his chisel. The Beg-Meil plan with a plywood structure is then battened with sipo. Our apprentice naval carpenter can be happy.

To share his passion and especially faced with the lack of videos on the subject in French (there are quite a few in English), he decided to launch into a video presentation of the manufacturing steps. A story that should last 2 years.

Faced with the beauty of the gesture and the quality of the work done, Bateaux.com decided to highlight this adventure by relaying these videos.
