Artefact, a superyacht hybrid with an environmental approach

Artefact, the new superyacht of Nobiskrug

The German shipyard Nobiskrug presented in more detail the Artefact hybrid superyacht, which will be completed in 2019. The owner's desire to have an environmentally friendly boat has required a lot of research and development.

We now know a little more about the next project of the German shipyard Nobiskrug euros, which built the Sailing yacht A this 80-meter long superyacht, finally named Artefact, is a hybrid with leading environmental characteristics. In fact, it is one of the first yachts to be built to the strict new IMO Tier III emissions standards for marine diesel engines used in emission control areas.

"ARTEFACT is a unique vessel that combines state-of-the-art engineering and striking architectural design that embodies a tribute to human subtleties that are often overlooked or ignored. Many traditional aspects of superyachts have been rethought to create an unprecedented experience while minimizing the impact on fragile marine ecosystems." explains Captain Aaron T. Clark.

The exterior and interior styles show the owner's commitment to environmental responsibility, technological innovation and customer comfort. For example, the pursuit of quiet operation and maximum stability drove the design of this vessel. Unlike a standard layout, the owner's cabin is located aft and not forward.

Hull development and testing has ensured a comfortable ride for the vessel. Artefact is the first hybrid superyacht to have a DC bus (power electronics technology used to transport high voltage DC electricity), batteries and a variable speed ABB Pod Diesel propulsion system. This new system offers greater efficiency, reduced emissions, noise and vibration. The boat is also equipped with solar panels and a large battery storage system to operate for long periods without heat engines. Or the waste water can be reused as technical water.

On the other hand, dynamic positioning (a computer-controlled system that allows a vessel to maintain its position using its own means of propulsion), ensures stability and comfort for the owner, without using anchors that would damage the protected seabed.

Its composite superstructure combined with the large custom curved glass panels ensures a visual experience from the inside with minimal uprights.

"ARTEFACT is a perfect marriage of art and science through innovative architectural design and advanced engineering." explains Holger Kahl, Managing Director of Nobiskrug.

The completion of the superyacht is scheduled for 2019.
