Jean Guichard is probably the photographer who took the longest time to photograph the lighthouses. Often by helicopter he has travelled the coasts to immortalize these maritime beacons, both in France and around the world.
The lost world of lighthouses is a beautiful (majestic?) book. It allows us to discover the world's leading companies in a portfolio of more than 200 pages. France, the British Isles, North America, the Nordic countries and the Iberian Peninsula are all chapters that show the beauty of its sometimes very unusual constructions.
In bad weather, or in blue skies, Jean Guichard manages to draw up splendid portraits. He is helped with the texts by Vincent Guigueno, historian and lighthouse specialist. His writings help us to better understand the importance and history of these immobile buildings.
We like to turn the pages of this great book as much as we would like to look at the pictures of a beautiful journey. Each lighthouse, and its little history, are as many stopovers as we sailors, appreciate so much.
