For the past 10 years, watch jackets and overalls have been made of breathable fabric. By wicking perspiration outwards, these outer layers prevent the sailor from getting wet in them. But for this breathing principle to be fully effective, technical underlays must be adopted that promote this moisture transfer.
3 layers for protection
To dress the sailor now uses 3 layers. The first layer in contact with the body is thin and snug. More or less warm depending on the climate in which we sail, it always keeps the body dry. This is important, because it is the humidity that makes you feel cold.
The second thicker layer is used to contain the heat. It is often made of fleece. This fabric with its loops maintains a layer of air around the body. And it is the air that provides the insulating barrier for heat.
Finally, the 3 e layer, the wax provides protection against the elements and in particular against water splashes.
A second very protective layer
Marinepool completes its catalogue with innovations for the second coat. With overalls and a Stavanger Midlayer jacket, the sailor finds here a warm, very light and perfectly breathable outfit.
Made in water-repellent Ripstop with an inner lining in Primaloft, the dungarees can be worn under oilskins. Reinforcements in the knees and buttocks prevent premature wear. For more comfort, the upper part of the dungarees is made of stretch fabric (elastic). The front zip is watertight, preventing air ingress. Adjustable at the waist to fit snugly to the body, these dungarees also include 2 front pockets.
These dungarees can be combined with the jacket made of the same material. This jacket can also be zipped to several jackets in the range.
To sail through the winter without breaking the bank
For those who are more sensitive to the cold, Marinepool has developed the Midlayer II. As in the previous model, it is a very enveloping "long John" type overalls which this time is lined with a fleece. On the outside, the fabric is water-repellent and stretchy on the shoulders. The same reinforcements are present on the knees and on the buttocks.
