European Yacht of the Year 2019: 3 luxury yachts

The luxury yacht sector is a limited market, with only a few models produced per year and a few projects that are the main ones. Here are 3 "exclusive" models selected for the 2019 European Sailing Vessel of the Year Award.

In this category, the judges selected three models of luxury yachts. These boats do not really stand out for the way they sail, but for the quality of their craftsmanship and above all the aura they create. It's the world of the rare, the world of the exceptional boat. Luxury yachts are not produced and sold by the dozen, but only by a few units produced each year.

They delight the eyes and are admired in the harbours, respected for their superb finishes and style. Some owners choose them only for their exceptional character while others will take advantage of the comfort and refinement offered at sea on long cruises.

Here, the decisive criteria are quality, space and design?; price and performance are secondary.

Hallberg-Rassy 57

The emblematic Swedish shipyard has specialised in the market for units over 50 feet in recent years. The Hallberg-Rassy 57 is the second largest model after the 64-foot model. It is also the most modern of the yard and the first bisafran model. Indeed, for the design, the site offers the best of the Hallberg-Rassy concept combined with Frers' latest designs and developments. Living space, storage, performance and driving are clearly improved.

Its features are: a central cockpit with two steering wheels, plenty of storage space, a bathing platform, spacious accommodation with 3 or 4 cabins, or a very large fully equipped kitchen.

In terms of navigation, the shipyard has equipped its boat with what they call a "Push button Sailing". This means electrical and electronic assistance for manoeuvring and navigation.

Sunbeam 46.1

The Austrian shipyard is trying to enter the tall ship market with the launch of the Sunbeam 46.1, the shipyard's largest model (14.75 m). The yard, which is attentive to the requirements of yacht owners, has worked on the layout and comfort, both inside and outside.

To do this, Sunbeam has adopted the codes in force in this category of yachts such as the aft bathing platform, the two wheel steering systems (to have better access to the rear), electric and electronic assistance, three beautiful double cabins, a large saloon, etc.

Wauquiez 42 Pilot Saloon

The Pilot Saloon 42 is the smallest model in the range. To break the codes and modernize its range, this 42-foot sailboat has been reworked in terms of hull and deck layout. The lines are more modern and aggressive while the saloon remains elevated to offer a breathtaking view of the sea.

The sailboat unveils vertical ends, two softened aft bilges and above all two rudders. The deck layout is a successful compromise between idleness and ease of manoeuvring.

We live inside on three levels. At the bottom are the cabins, including a magnificent owner's suite that occupies the entire stern of the boat, then the galley and chart table, on port, and finally the saloon, on starboard. Conclusive test, the view of the sea is beautiful and well assured, both standing and sitting.
