Carat 187, a superyacht concept inspired by the Cannes Film Festival

The medium of glitter and rhinestones, the Cannes Film Festival, an exclusive venue and a brilliant atmosphere are the concepts that inspired the French studio Technicon Design to produce the Carat 187, a superyacht concept that is very "red carpet".

The Technicon Design studio located in the Paris region is familiar with luxury transport design. They have also won several prizes in the famous International Yacht 1 Aviation Awards competition. After private aviation and the design of supercars, it was therefore quite natural for him to try his hand at yachting.

The result is Carat, a 187-foot (57 m) superyacht whose concept is inspired by major French luxury events such as fashion shows, ceremonies, great operas or major festivals, such as Cannes. "Luxury, strass and excess".

The studio has therefore adopted the essential design markers of the Cannes Film Festival, namely its red carpet and steps. Elements that have been integrated into the yacht such as the red steps at the stern that unfold to reveal a large cockpit area - a party area - and allow access to both tenders.

The studio also opted for an asymmetrical shell by mixing sculptural shapes on one side and surfaces for simple and linear on the other. " These two facets evoke different personalities, an "introverted" and an "extroverted" aspect like a movie star with a private life and a life exposed to everyone" explains Paul Martinez, who worked on the boat's exterior design.

"The objective behind this project was to create something unique, different from the current design codes in yachting. We wanted something atypical, exaggerated and ultra luxurious." he adds.

The boat has large external deck surfaces, large glazing and special surface treatment, such as this large white structure covering the starboard side.

To produce this concept, Technicon Design was inspired by a modelling process used in the cinema. The idea was to produce a digital environment using digital modelling and visualization tools.

"With these precise, realistic and attractive digital renderings, we allow customers to project themselves into their future yacht. We can anticipate aesthetic, technical or ergonomic changes in order to adapt to the customer's wishes. We can even go so far as to offer a virtual tour of the yacht to immerse the future buyer in the atmosphere on board and offer unprecedented experiences during the design process. Finally, from an economic point of view, all these visual aids are much less expensive than creating a scale model or modifying the boat once it is under construction" concludes Guillaume Juif, in charge of digital.
