How to choose your used boat? This week, the Blue Djinn Still in the B2 Marine yard's catalogue in 2019, this small, simple and habitable cruiser, 500 units of which have been distributed since 1994, is an excellent opportunity to seize!

  • Price: from 3,000 euros
  • Built 500 copies since 1994

- SAS with a share capital of ?200,000

B2 Marine is a discreet shipyard but still very present on the small cruiser market since we owe it, in addition to other models, more than 500 Blue Djinn, this small dinghy with such a friendly face. For the short story, B2 Marine owes its name to its founding boss Bernard Badets, hence the two B... A builder who nowadays produces mainly small motor boats. But who remains above all in love with sailing boats - when will there be a new model?

An extended Microcupper

- SAS with a share capital of ?200,000

From the hull of a Micro from the 1980s, the Blue Djinn has been extended to a little over 6 m of hull and equipped with a significantly larger living space. No desire to compete, but a very studied price - it always offers new at less than 26 000 ?. In 25 years of presence in its catalogue, B2 Marine can boast of having produced more than 500 copies. Certainly, we are far from the 2,000 Sun 2000, its most direct competitor, but it is still an undeniable commercial success.

A popular choice for family cruises

The program of this integral dinghy? The ballad and the small cruise with the family, in constraint of draught. Flat grounding and easy transport guaranteed! Far from the fashion effects, the Blue Djinn even plays the paradox card: its design is almost outdated, contrary to current standards (open cockpit, straight bow...) reassures. However, there have been some cosmetic changes over the years with the two round portholes of the Yves Parlier version and glazing closer to those of the Djinn 7.

With its hull that smells good in the 1980s, its simple and wise rigging and its large cockpit, the Blue Djinn seduces young couples with one or two children, but also seniors. This dinghy offers clean but stylish accommodation: sleeping for four, a small table and a few chests. That's the bare minimum for a weekend on the water. The most motivated will stay the week! Another quality of this micro cruiser: a well-designed deck layout and great manoeuvrability.

Living under sails

On the water, a pleasant surprise, the Blue Djinn is nothing like a machine that only obeys its outboard: it is quite efficient in all conditions. Of course, the appendages made of a simple aluminium sheet will stall if you try to point too high upwind. At all other speeds, we take pleasure in leading this dinghy, which is quite safe in the breeze. Be careful not to let yourself get carried away by this reassuring behaviour. The Blue Djinn remains a small integral dinghy, which can be damaged by a 35 knot wind and heavy seas.

The diagnosis of Bateaux.com

One of the great advantages of this model, which is widely used on the second-hand market, is undoubtedly its good ageing. No external woodwork, generous sampling and ultra simple hardware make the Blue Djinn an almost new sailboat after 10 or 15 years of sailing - and still clean for the oldest units.

Be careful not to let yourself get carried away by its reassuring behaviour: the Blue Djinn remains a small integral dinghy, which can be damaged by a 35 knot wind and heavy seas. This model benefits from a particularly user-friendly and dynamic owners' association.

The advantages of lithium technology

  • Easy to use and easy to use
  • Low price
  • Low draught and easy transport

The disadvantages

  • Cockpit a little narrow at the rear
  • Modest size and integral dinghy configuration not well adapted to the strong breeze
  • Average yield of the appendages upwind

But what is it missing?

A more modern hull with a straight bow and wider stern would offer superior performance, more stiffness to the canopy and a more comfortable cockpit.

The equivalent today?

The Blue Djinn is new, of course, but also a few pure cruisers like the Sailart 18 or the TES 5.50. Also noteworthy: the Aloes 18 or the iKone J, more original in design.
