Lex Boats, the classic, chic and electric dayboat

eLEX 790

The Austrian shipyard Lex Boat produces classic and elegant dayboats, with a retro and modern look. With a design reminiscent of motorboats, an electric motorization and a category C approval, these models are intended for inland navigation.

A "unique" boat

Lex Boat is a brand of classic and electric dayboats launched by Nina and Christian Lex in 2015. In search of the boat of their dream, they approached the design firm I Yacht - to whom we owe the catamaran Slyder 49 or the Bavaria E34 - led by the German designer Udo A. Hafner.

"We wanted an elegant boat, with a retro and modern style, but above all unique. This is how the eLex 610 was born" explains Nina Lex. The construction site in Maria Wörth, on Lake Wörthersee, Austria, won the special prize of the German Design Awards a year later - in 2016.

Two semi-custom models in the range

In 2019, the range now consists of two models: the eLex 610, a 6.10 m open and the eLex 790, with a length of 7.90 m. Their design is reminiscent of that of motorboats, with chic and refined lines that contrast with the vertical and thin very modern bow. A look that is not unlike that of the Frauschers, elegant and sporty motorboats.

"We produce between 10 and 15 boats a year, unlike Frauscher, who is in mass production. We want to remain unique with a "haute couture" positioning. We also work with Italian dealers. Our boats are semi-custom, so that owners can choose their own design" nina Lex explains.

Thus, the owner can choose his upholstery, the design of the pilot and co-pilot seats, the layout of his dashboard. In total, 14 equipments are included as standard and 15 are optional.

Electric or thermal propulsion

For propulsion, Lex Boat has opted for electric propulsion, although since 2016, it has been possible to choose an Evinrude internal combustion engine with a maximum power rating of 60 HP for the smallest model. Jet propulsion has also been on the catalogue since 2019 for this same model.

The motors are hidden under the sunbathing area for more comfort. Hidden from the outside, noise is reduced and swimming is safer. "Below 15 CH, there is no need to have a permit in some European countries, especially in Germany since 2014" explains Nina Lex.

The eLex 610 is approved in category C and can accommodate up to 5 people on board. It can accommodate 3 models of Torqeedo electric motors: 2.0 (3 knot cruise speed), 4.0 (3 knot) or 10.0 (4.3 knot). The maximum power of the internal combustion engine is 30 HP.

For its largest model, the eLEX 790, the Austrian shipyard has decided to focus on thermal power and therefore performance with a maximum power of 2x225 HP. In this 2nd model, there is a small cabin at the front in which it is possible to install toilets.

With their approval in category C, Lex Boat dayboats are more suited for lake or coastal navigation. Currently, the yard does not yet have any resellers in France, but is studying the potential of one that it considers "interesting"
