Mazu Yachts reveals the interior design choices of the Mazu 82

Mazu Yachts' Mazu 82

The Mazu 82 is the largest model of the Turkish manufacturer MazuYachts, which manufactures large Open and Hard-top motor boats. This 24.50 m superyacht will be delivered in the summer of 2019 and takes up the characteristic lines of the range. For the interior design, the yard innovated by using a dedicated designer, more used to decorating apartments than boats.

A custom superyacht

With the Mazu 82, Turkish builder Mazu Yachts is taking a step up by tackling the superyacht market. After launching 38-, 42- and 52-foot models, the shipyard specializing in large open and hard-top yachts will deliver its largest model, a 24.50-meter-long yacht, in late summer 2019.

Like the previous models, the Mazu 82 has a large open deck, a signature of the brand. The carbon fiber sandwich construction will accommodate 3 cabins and three Volvo Penta 1350 IPS (3x1000 HP) for a maximum speed of 40 knots and a cruising speed of 35 knots.

An "earthy" designer

The interior design was entrusted to the designer Tanju Özelgin, who is more used to luxurious land-based interiors. This possibility of customization was decisive for the sale of this first model. And this is the first time Mazu Yachts has used a dedicated interior designer to optimize the spaces on board a boat. The Turkish designer has been working on creating meaningful interiors and objects for 20 years, but this is the first time he has applied his knowledge to a boat.

"Designing yacht interiors is really not that different from designing any other space, explains Özelgin.

An intimate and comfortable interior design

On this 24.50 m long and 5.90 m wide superyacht, the objective was to create a sober, relaxing and elegant atmosphere with a soothing combination of warm light and original textures to optimize the time spent on board.

"The main challenge in designing yacht interiors is the mobility of the space and the limited space. The boat is rarely stationary and always surrounded by water. These are determining aspects in the choice of materials to be used, the weight and dimensions of each piece of furniture. It is also necessary to determine whether the furniture is fixed to the floor or not. Safety also plays a very important role in the decision making process says the designer.

In terms of decoration and layout, the Mazu 82 is inspired not by the codes in force in the nautical world, but by those of architecture. " The space must be airy to take advantage of the presence of the sea and the atmosphere it creates on board, but just as comfortable as at home or in a nice hotel. This was one of the key elements of the brief: to create a space that won't feel like you're on a yacht, but at home, with all the privacy and comfort that goes with it." concludes the designer.
