Hallberg-Rassy 40C, a wind of modernity without losing your mind

Hallberg-Rassy 40C

Following the launch of the latest models in the central cockpit range, namely the 44 and 57, the Swedish Hallberg-Rassy will launch the 40 C in August 2019. This 12.30 m long model incorporates the modernization elements discovered in the latest models. To be discovered in Düsseldorf in 2020.

A more modern model

Hallberg-Rassy sailboats have that image of quality, sturdiness and unostentatious luxury that makes Europeans dream. With its characteristic white and blue hull and wooden deck design, the Swedish shipyard has imposed its classic and traditional style in the world of sailing yachts.

After the launch of large units in recent years, Hallberg-Rassy will present the 40 C in early 2020. This 12.30 m yacht will be the smallest model in the "Central Cockpit" range, which already includes the recent 44 and 57 footers and the 64 and 48 MK II. Like the latest models, it has a more modern design.

A well protected central cockpit

With almost 2 m less length than the Hallberg-Rassy 44, this 40C nevertheless offers a cockpit of the same size. It is protected by the traditional glass windshield with central opening. It can be closed, either by a folding hood or by a rigid roof. The latter configuration offers good protection against bad weather, cold and sun, as well as good soundproofing when sailing in bad weather.

The helm station installed on the stern has been slightly raised, still well protected by the cockpit coamings. The helmsman thus benefits from a better visibility. This installation also frees up space in the owner's cabin, installed at the stern, and characteristic of this range with a central cockpit. Benches are placed all around the cockpit to accompany the helmsman without disturbing him. The halyards are winched back under the cockpit coamings.

The steering column offers space for a plotter and navigation instruments. There is also the Push button Sailing", i.e. an electric and electronic assistance to the maneuvers and the navigation.

An adapted ergonomics

In order to adapt to the clientele, Hallberg-Rassy works on the ergonomics and accessibility of the boats. Thus, steps are installed on each side of the cockpit to facilitate entry and exit. They also make it possible to cleverly conceal the electric motors of the genoa winches, without encroaching on the interior space.

At the transom level, two options are available. The small basic platform or a large folding platform. In the bow, the electric windlass is hidden in the very large anchor locker.

A modernization effort

In an effort to modernize the hull design, the bow is straight to extend the waterline length. The transom is vertical and the midship beam is fairly far back, providing a large cockpit and ample storage space. The width at the waterline requires the use of two rudders, which will improve the control of the boat.

A fixed bowsprit that allows the use of a light wind sail, code 0 type, to integrate the davit and the anchor and to put a bow ladder.

For ergonomics and accessibility, the modernization effort also concerns the rigging. The low backstays are not necessary, even if we sail with the low stay and a staysail. The headsail has little overlap, making tacking easier. A self-tacking jib is also available as an option.

A bright interior

The interior is bright with large roof windows and 6 hull windows, similar in size to the larger models in the range. The style is classic with a wooden interior, which is now offered in a lighter tone than the traditional dark mahogany.

Two kitchen options

In the saloon, the port side space is occupied by a chart table aft and an L-shaped bench seat forward. On the starboard side, there are two layout options. The owner has the choice between a large galley or a very large galley. In the latter configuration, the work surfaces are more numerous, as is the storage space and the standard refrigerator is replaced by a front opening fridge. It is also possible to add a dishwasher and a microwave.

The choice of a large galley will free up storage space in the cockpit lockers. In this last configuration, two armchairs replace the sofa.

Large kitchen and double rear cabin

Two rear cab options

The hallmark of Hallberg-Rassy's center cockpit yachts is the very large aft owner's cabin. On this 40C, two options are offered. The standard version has two separate berths, one double and one single. An armchair separates the two sleeping areas.

As an option, a double berth can be installed in the center of the cabin, with a bench seat to port and a dressing table to starboard. This configuration is not incompatible with the installation of a stern thruster.

A second double cabin is located in the front peak, as is the toilet.
