This summer, the SNSM will introduce your children to first aid

Because children are the first to be affected by the risks of the seaside, the SNSM has decided to conduct a major free prevention campaign from 29 July to 9 August on the west coast of France.

Preventing drownings

Drownings can be fatal and in summer, more than in other seasons, the risks are increased. Especially for children, from 7 to 12 years old, who are very exposed to risks at the seaside and to common life accidents. Indeed, more autonomous, we tend to let them play alone in the water.

Except that in 2018, 600 accidental drownings were recorded among children under 13 years of age, between 1 January and 31 December er june and September 30, 2018. Figures collected by the 2018 Noyades study, which almost doubled compared to the last study in 2015. Thus, in France, there are nearly 1650 cases of accidental drowning (all ages combined), of which 412 resulted in death.

Sensitize children to the risks of the seaside

To protect this fragile public, the SNSM has decided, in partnership with the Macif Group, to conduct a major awareness campaign this summer 2019 with lifeguard swimmers. This operation will introduce children to first aid through fun and educational activities.

This prevention campaign, organized from July 29 to August 9, will take place on several beaches on the French West Coast. While it is particularly aimed at young people under 13 years of age, families are also invited to participate.

The little rescuer's kit

At the end of each Prevention Workshop, the children will leave with a useful and educational kit. The latter will include a mini-rescuer diploma, a complete first aid kit, beach bracelets to be easily found if you get lost or a quiz on ocean protection.

The program:

  • Identification of risks at the seaside (getting lost, drowned, injured...)
  • Introduction to life-saving gestures
  • Learning emergency numbers
  • Using the semi-automatic defibrillator
  • Use of rescue equipment
  • Disposal of a victim in a lateral safety position
  • Learning reflexes in case of accidents (protect, alert, rescue).
