Special Edition / Tribord 5S, the easy and fun inflatable dinghy for family fun

Tribord is a water sports brand of Decathlon that likes to design products to facilitate access to water and make it fun. After 5 years of development and 15 prototypes, Tribord is launching its first boat, a 3 m inflatable dinghy called Tribord 5S. On the program, an easy to use product to have fun with your family and share your passion for sailing.

Getting people to come or go sailing

Today, sailing retains an elitist image, despite the multiplicity of supports offered by the market. Technically, it requires a certain know-how and investment in learning. To cut short this complicated aspect of sailing, Tribord has developed an inflatable dinghy (drop-stitch, paddle material) without adjustment and therefore very easy to use, by adults, children and even families.

From the transport to the reassuring use, everything has been thought of to make the brakes of the canopy jump and make people want to practice. The Tribord 5S has taken 5 years of design to achieve a reassuring, non-anxiety-producing support, even for novices.

Facilitate storage

Owning a boat also means having certain constraints: storage, towing, hitching... Constraints that boaters are no longer necessarily ready to accept. Today, consumption patterns have changed and we like to practice several sports and vary the activities according to the day. Inflatable supports have also revolutionized the practice, since they are easily transportable, just like paddles or kayaks.

So the idea was to develop a small inflatable boat (308 x 140 cm inflated) that you can easily fit in the trunk of your car. The Tribord S5 is stored in two easy-to-carry carrying bags, so that only one adult can manage it, even alone with his children.

Family use

The Tribord S5 is aimed at families, to share and pass on their passion for sailing to their children, and to all those who would like to get back into sailing, after having completed one or more courses, and sail independently. Designed on the basis of the Optimist family and children's Optimist, the Tribord S5 is nonetheless a support designed for adults.

With this easy-to-use dinghy, parents can introduce their children to sailing, to the point of making them autonomous. The sailing area is adaptable, going from 5.7 m2 to 3 m2, for the practice of the youngest, depending on the weather conditions or to get familiar with the practice.

Safe for children and comfortable for parents

The flat hull is fitted with a U-shaped wrap-around bench seat. Small children will see a wrap-around cocoon as they slide into the bottom of the front bench seat. It will also serve as a barrier to avoid falling overboard.

For adults, the bench seat improves comfort to enjoy a long time at sea, while playing a role in the rigidity of the boat.

Easy to navigate

Tribord to prioritize easy handling and easy practice, rather than performance. The Tribord S5 is as wide as two stand-up paddle boards, with a flat hull, like a scow, whose daggerboards and rudder are fitted before launching.

Handy and easy to tack, it provides the same sensations as a dinghy. It is also easy to manoeuvre. Indeed, on board, a helm to steer and a sheet to trim the mainsail.

Tribord presents its dinghy as the first 100% pre-set boat on the market. The brand has also worked with Technique Voile to develop a sail without adjustment.

Thanks to its short daggerboards and thus its draught reduced to 30 cm, it is possible to beauty easily. Even if it is reassuring, the boat stays alive and sails very well. Like a go-kart, it provides superb gliding sensations in conditions of up to 16 knots.

Easy to assemble

25 minutes will be enough to inflate and assemble it. Easy to assemble, we can easily involve your children in the assembly. If it is possible to inflate with a manual pump, an electric pump is available. Thanks to its two removable off-road wheels, the Tribord S5 can be launched in any condition. The rigging is intuitive and quick to set up and a single knot of eight will suffice.

The Tribord S5 will be on sale from September 2019 and is already available for pre-order on decathlon.fr at the price of 2500 euros. Around ten models will be available for testing at the Grand Pavois, on the beach in September as well.
