80 Sunreef Power, the first new generation powercat from Sunreef Yachts

Sunreef Yachts specialises in the semi-custom construction of luxury sailing and motor catamarans over 50 feet. His last modèle?? An 80-foot powercat, including the first Aria unit, was presented at Cannes in September 2019.

The birth of a range of powercat

While 70% of orders are for sail models, the Polish manufacturer, based in Gdansk, continues to develop the powercat market, in line with the strategy announced in September 2018.

Sunreef Yachts has been building luxury power catamarans for more than 10 years now, as Francis Lapp, shipyard manager, explained at its annual conference in Cannes.

"We launched our first motor catamaran in 2008. It was the 70 Sunreef Power, a model designed for Laurent Bourgnon, with whom I had sympathized on the Paris Dakar in 2002/2003. Together we developed a catamaran capable - already at that time - of carrying out a transatlantic or a transpacific "explains Francis Lapp.

The shipyard concentrates on the lively works of the boat rather than on the aesthetics. Thus, the superstructure is very round, "a bit like the boats of the Transat Jacques Vabre of the time" adds Francis Lapp.

The boat is launched in June 2008 and 18 units will be sold in total. Today, the site is launching the Sunreef Power 80 which will soon be joined by the new 60 Sunreef Power and 70 Sunreef Power. It is the first motorized model in the new "New Beginning" range launched in 2017 with the sailing sector.

The 70 Sunreef Power

The Sunreef Power 80, lines inspired by its predecessor

If there is already a Sunreef 80 in Sunreef's sail range, the two models have nothing to do with it, as the site manager explains. "A powercat and a sailing catamaran are totally different. They are not the same hulls. Removing the mast from the sailboat is not enough to get a motorboat. The hull of a sailing catamaran is banana-shaped, unlike that of a motor catamaran."

The 80 Sunreef Power is therefore inspired - not by its sailing counterpart - but by its ancestor, the first 70 Sunreef Power. The hull structure was calculated internally with Dassault Système's fluid dynamics simulation (CFD) software for "have the best hull design and performance."

To make a clear distinction between sailboat and motorboat, Sunreef has chosen to enlarge the main beam from 11.50 m to 2 - 12 m.

A custom layout

Like the entire range, the 80 Sunreef Power offers great freedom of customization. "As in the superyacht motor sector, we do everything we can to satisfy customer demand."

Thus, on board, the large spaces are flexible: galley in the port hull or on the main deck, lounge on port or starboard, three or four cabins, one or two crew cabins.. "Many spaces are customizable on board, especially on the fly where the owner can choose a bar or jacuzzi", explains Karolina Paszkiewicz-Kolacz, in charge of the group's communication.

"Designers work directly with customers on the many possible designs. So every 80 Sunreef Power will be different." adds Karolina.

In the aft, the large cockpit hides a special garage under the sunbathing area, with a jet-ski launching system. It is connected to a beautiful hydraulic platform, ideal for enjoying the joys of the sea. At the front, the front beach is accessible directly from the interior and offers a magnificent relaxation area.

A different story

Each 80 Power tells a different story. Hull No. 1, named Aria, was built for an American customer. The latter chose a "Miami" inspiration for the design and decoration.

The space on board is incredible and can be arranged according to the wishes of its owner. Comfort and privacy are preserved thanks to a crew area that has its own access to the galley (when located in the port aft hull).

In the hulls, there is a Master cabin and two Guest Cabins. On the flybridge, a jacuzzi enclosed in the rear sunbathing area allows you to relax. Central circular bar, television screen, large sofas and dining tables complete the set. There are also two cockpits, one on the fly and one on the main deck.
