The 2019 sailor of the year is a woman and there are 2 of them! This election recognizes this year the light sailing and the Olympic sector. Indeed, Camille Lecointre and Aloïse Retornaz, the women's Olympic sailing crew in 470 (double dinghies) were elected Sailor of the Year on Saturday, December 7, 2019.

Before setting out on the road to the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, Brest's Camille Lecointre and Aloïse Retornaz have already made their mark on world competitions, progressing at every stage: European champions and bronze medallists at the World Championships in Enoshima this summer, they won the Test Event a few weeks later.

Not easy to elect a sailor among so many others. Especially since the nominees come from all walks of life. If we find the "stars" well known to the general public by their results in ocean racing (often solo), the practitioners of light sailing are also present (dinghy, windsurfing, kite).

For 2019, the jury is composed of the president Catherine Chabaud, journalists, representatives of sports institutions and athletes. To them falls the heavy task of electing the "best". Catherine Chabaud comes back on this election: " Choosing a Sailor of the Year is a very difficult exercise because sailing today evolves on many different supports with very complete sailors. The award offered to Camille and Aloise seems to me absolutely justified, because I realize, as a woman of the open sea, that today the level of performance is very demanding and engaging for these athletes of light sailing. Finally, even if we also hesitated with very good offshore sailors, I am delighted that it is a duo of women. Double-handed sailing is a magical discipline, full of strong human values. Camille and Aloise are radiant and have a lot to teach us about commitment. I am very honored to have chaired this jury alongside Nicolas Hénard, who is doing a wonderful job for sailing. "
