Jules Verne Trophy, the world tour record told and illustrated

The Jules Verne Trophy greets sailors who sail around the world as quickly as possible. Only 9 crews managed to beat this record held today by Francis Joyon in 40 days. The book traces the entire history of this record since its creation in 1992.

Published on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the start of the world tour under sail of Magellan and especially accompanying the exhibition of the National Maritime Museum of Brest the book "Le Trophée Jules Verne" tells the story of this incredible maritime odyssey.

Trophée Jules Verne

Created in 1992 by Florence Arthaud and Titouan Lamazou, based on an idea by Yves Le Cornec, this trophy is a challenge of the simplest expression. It is a question of leaving in front of Brest and coming back through the 3 capes as quickly as possible. All sailboats are allowed to run, everyone is free to choose their horses and crew.

Since the creation of this trophy, only 9 crews have won it. Following in the footsteps of Philéas Fogg, the hero of Jules Verne's novel, which toured the world in 80 days, the crews followed one another. The first winner was BrunoPeyron's crew who took 79 days on Commodore Explorer, a 28 m catamaran. Then came Peter Blake, Olivier de Kersauson, Franck Cammas, Loïck Peyron and finally Francis Joyon, current record holder in 40 days.

Based on the exhibition material, this book retraces the entire history of the record, the sculpture that makes up the trophy and the various crews and boats that competed. Many portraits of Titouan Lamazou complete the illustrations.

Trophée Jules Verne

A record that has an additional value when you discover that only 68 sailors from all crews have ever held this precious trophy in their hands.
