Special Edition / EVO-J Plastimo life jackets designed for children

Created in 2015 by Plastimo, the EVO range of life jackets is being extended with a junior model to accompany teenagers on the water from this Spring.

Not a season without a change in vests at Plastimo: already last year, the EVO model for adults benefited from a change in materials, adopting the extra-soft fabric and Dyneema(TM) harness loops present on the SL180 vest, which is very popular with offshore racers. In 2020, the Lorient manufacturer renews its range for children: Plastimo's Design Office has developed the EVO-J model (EVO-Junior).

Like the whole range, the EVO-J is a lifejacket in the shape of a drop of water. So he's putting his head in. This shape is chosen for the freedom of movement it allows the user. A water-drop vest is forgotten when you wear it, which reminds us of the stated objective of the Lorientais Design Office: always more comfort and ergonomics, because what is more important than wearing your vest? What do you do with an embarrassing vest that you leave in the cabin or in a trunk?

Automatic triggering

Gilet de sauvetage Plastimo EVO-J

The EVO-J vest is an automatic release model (cellulose pellet) for children between 20 and 50 kg (over 8/9 years). The buoyancy volume is 110 N whereas the standard requires only 90 N. For younger children, a foam vest is preferred, to avoid unintentional impact and allow safe swimming.

Beyond the simple regulatory constraint, Plastimo shows here its willingness to meet the real needs of all users: having tested its product on children of different bodies, the manufacturer has favoured the volume of buoyancy and freeboard once inflated. With a buoyancy of 110 N, the child will be guaranteed to turn over and float head above the water whatever clothes he or she is wearing (even with oilskin and boots).

Comfortable and well-equipped

This vest incorporates a harness with a textile buckle for hitting the carabiner. A subcutaneous completes the set. A Neoprene collar covers the vest's envelope to offer more comfort when wearing the vest, especially with a simple T-shirt in summer. At the back, the back strap is adjustable to adapt the vest to the child's size. Given the possible range of height between a 9-year-old child and a 12-year-old teenager, the double adjustment (dorsal and ventral) is very relevant.

Popular with children

To choose the design for the vest, Plastimo called on a panel of 40 children aged 9 to 12 to choose from several proposals. It is this colourful and luminous decoration that won the vote.
