The Domani E32 Chaseboat is the first motor boat of the Belgian manufacturer. To continue with the same philosophy as his range of yachts, he opted for electric propulsion and worked on an innovative hull design.

A special hull for electric propulsion

After the successful launch of the Domani S30 sailboat in 2018, the Belgian builder Domani Yachts is now moving into powerboats, but electric of course! "The S30s have always been electrically powered so it made sense to install an electric motor on our power boat." explains Michael Goddaert, the founder of Domani.

The E32 is a 9.50 m open hull, the result of a meeting between designer Jaap de Jonge and Michael Goddaert, founder of the Domani yard. The former worked for several years as a hydrodynamic engineer at the famous Damen yard. Having already spotted the lines of the Domani yachts, he approached Michael with a hull design especially developed for an electrically powered boat. With only 15 kW, the E32 combines performance and silence, capable of cruising at a speed of 15 km/h, and will even be able to reach a maximum speed of 20 knots.

"This is a hull that was developed solely for electric propulsion. It is non-planing, it is what we call a "fast displacement" hull explains Michael.

An elegant dayboat

The final result is a "chaseboat", the creators not wishing to use the term engine, reminding them of the noise of thermal propulsion, built in infusion in the Netherlands. The lines are contemporary and pure, reminding the designs in fashion at the moment: straight bow, large cockpit, cockpit protected by a large windshield, beautiful wooden foredeck, etc..

An electric inboard engine

The 50 kW inboard motor is from Yasa, the leading manufacturer of axial-flow electric motors and controllers, and is installed in the center of the boat. Two additional power ratings are available, one 60 kW and one 70 kW. The motor is mounted on a rigid transmission via a thrust joint designed to absorb even the smallest mechanical noises and vibrations. A lithium battery (38 kW, 56 kW or 75 kW) powers the electric motor.

"At cruising speed, the E32 Chaseaboat should use no more than 25 kW in a day. For charging, it will require only one night on a 3000 watt charger." explains Michael.

On-board home automation

A touch screen on the dashboard, complemented by a dedicated mobile application, allows the user to monitor the status of the engine and batteries, as well as to adjust the lighting, heating and audio. A 6 kW DC/AC inverter can be installed to convert the current into e30 volts. This will allow the installation of domestic equipment on board without the need to install a generator such as a stove, an espresso machine or air conditioning.

A custom design

The large cockpit can be arranged according to the owner's needs. There are large sunbeds, bench seats and an outdoor kitchen. The cockpit is simple with a dashboard equipped with a large screen. The cockpit is well protected by a large U-shaped windscreen.

inside, there is an elegant cabin with a good headroom offering a double bed, a bathroom, a small kitchenette and plenty of storage space.

A closed version, the Euro E32 Lounge, offers an enclosed superstructure that is particularly suited to cruising and the Scandinavian market. Custom built, the Domani E32 offers many customization options to suit the owner's desires. The shipyard also hopes to enter the superyacht market with this elegant electric tender.

"We are positioning ourselves in a high-end market with quality construction, custom fit-out and environmentally friendly propulsion. We are also looking into the possibility of a hydrogen generator." concludes Michael Goddaert.
