Discovery / Windy 37 Shamal, a sporty dayboat with a vintage look

Here is the new model of the Windy Boat range, the 37 Shamal. This sporty 10.64 m model was designed as a dayboat, but its two cabins and comfortable layout make it ideal for short cruises.

Filling the range

To fill the gap left in the range between the W32 Grand Zonda RS and the W39 Camira, the Norwegian manufacturer Windy has just launched the Windy 37 Shamal at the beginning of 2020. This 10.64 m long model is a worthy successor to the W35 Khamsin, which has not been in the range for several years.

A sporty boat with a vintage look

For the look, the famous designer Espen Oino took inspiration from the old Windy models, produced in the 60s and 70s, but with a lot of comfort and technology. The idea was also to create a boat that was easy to steer, capable of adapting to northern seas, such as Swiss lakes or the calmer waters of the Mediterranean.

The result is a rather sporty design, with slender lines encircled by an elegantly contoured windscreen, no doubt inspired by the elegant old canoes of 50 years ago and more.

A deep and comfortable cockpit

The large cockpit, extended by a bathing platform, is easily accessible via a side passageway on the port side. The large sundeck with removable backrest covers the engine compartment - two Volvo D6 engines from 400 to 440 hp - as well as a very long trunk where you can easily store a paddle or skis.

We appreciate the hidden locker in the port passage which allows to stow mooring lines and fenders in an upright position, and to free the cockpit.

The latter is pleasantly appointed with a galley with grill, sink and refrigerators on the port side and a comfortable U-shaped saloon with a table opposite, whose sides can be folded out to increase the surface area. The kitchen unit has a worktop in the form of a removable shelf on the left side, which is easy to install and fold down to save space.

An integrated bimini as standard (or an optional camping awning) protects the entire cockpit from the sun or rain.

A spacious cockpit

Forward is a starboard cockpit with two comfortable armchairs with armrests and a thigh cushion for standing. The dashboard is spacious and equipped with a large navigation screen, also dedicated to home automation. A third co-pilot's seat on the port side allows an additional person to enjoy the seaward facing navigation.

Access to the front beach is via easy-to-use central steps protected by handrails and a central windscreen opening.

A spacious interior for short cruises

Designed as a dayboat, this sportboat has two cabins and a comfortable interior space, allowing for short cruises. On the starboard side there is a second galley, in which we appreciate having two rubbish bins for sorting waste. At the front, the central cabin offers two berths, while at the rear, the large cabin accommodates a double bed. A panel hidden in the bulkhead separates the aft cabin from the main cabin, a clever layout designed once again to save living space.

A bathroom with separate shower and storage space complete the interior design.

High quality finishes

As on its other models, Windy has thought about the quality of the finishes and details, even hiding cup holders in the tack room or installing flush trap openings. These are not easy to open the first time, you have to take the fold. The quality of the wood, as well as the quality of the upholstery is also a good point.

A quality that has a price, since the Windy 37 Shamal is priced at 440?000 euros HT.
