Test / Navigation and Program of Pardo 38, a playful behavior

We tried the Pardo 38 off Cannes in the late afternoon. Very little wind, but the chop generated by the many boats in the bay makes the test interesting for the youngest member of the Pardo range

Many versions

The Pardo 38 has 6 engine choices. Three outboard configurations. 2 x 280 hp, 2 x 350 hp and also 3 x 300 hp Mercury V8 Verado. With this last motorization, the speed can reach 50 knots. Two other configurations are available in board with 280 hp Volvo D4s and 440 hp D6s. For our part the boat of our test was equipped with a Volvo D6 of 380 hp. This option seems to us the most appropriate for the use of promenade and small cruise. At a cruising speed of 20 knots the noise is acceptable, as the engines are not running too fast. At this speed, the comfort is very good, the sunbed is usable, and a comfortable power reserve is always available. And we're about to find out

An incisive hull

At a good distance from the port, throttle at full throttle, in less than 28 seconds we reach the maximum speed of 37 knots. On this choppy stretch of water, we were immediately seduced by the cutting effect of the very pronounced V-shaped hull on the waves generated by the wake of the other boats. We wander around the bay with a secure heading, but it is the changes in direction that awaken the best sensations. The hull gives the impression of being stuck to the water by lying on the side of the turn well supported on its step. It's easy to get caught up in the game, especially since the bucket seats provide good support.

Convincing fast cruising range

Essai Pardo 38

With this type of boat, the ideal cruising speed is around 20 knots. At this fast but stress-free pace, you can cover 300 miles, while at the 14-knot breakup speed, you can only cover 260 miles. This range allows you to spend several days of coastal cruising without going to the pump.

An ergonomic cockpit

Essai Pardo 38

The driving position is very pleasant whether you are manoeuvring standing up or crossing while seated in the seats. The wind jumper is very aesthetic and protects well... in good weather. The sides of the hull are perfectly delightful in sea spray, and it is in case of rain that we will be the least protected.
