Leisure 28, the electric dayboat capable of reaching 40 knots

The Danish manufacturer Rand Boat has just developed a new electric propulsion system for its largest model, the Leisure 28. The result is a maximum speed of 40 ?!

Rand Boats - a Danish shipyard specialising in dayboats - is heavily invested in the development of sustainable boating. Since its establishment in 2014, the builder has invested heavily in electric propulsion as well as in sustainable production techniques and building materials. In 2015, it produced its first boat based on recycled fibreglass, and today it continues to research and test the most sustainable construction materials.

In March 2020, he presented the Leisure 28 Electric, the largest model in its range with a length of 8.44 m. It retains the huge cockpit characteristic of the yard but also offers a small cabin and a toilet.

The latter is not new, as it was launched in January 2018. But it has since undergone several transformations and optimizations, to be even lighter and faster while maintaining its stability and marine qualities.

The novelty is the maximum speed it is capable of achieving with its electric propulsion: 40 knots. At reduced speed, it offers an autonomy of 2 hours. This new electric stern-drive is the result of several years of investment and testing. It consists of a 240 kW magnet electric motor and a modular lithium battery available from 80 to 120 kW.

This new propulsion system will also be offered on the other models in the range, starting at 24 feet.
