Cruising training, choose your ideal sailboat

On Sunday, April 5, 2020, the first training session on offshore navigation was held. This one-hour live session, hosted by Katell, author of the blog Les Tutos de la Croisière, focused on the choice of a sailboat for a crossing between Brest and the Azores. A session that brought together more than 500 people

A "virtual" cruise

If we can't navigate in these complicated times, we can at least escape and learn. In partnership with the site Les tutos de la croisière, Bateaux.com has launched a new kind of operation: a free training session on live cruising on YouTube.

This 1?200 mile crossing between Brest and the Azores will be carried out according to the actual weather conditions, with a start around 15th April.

But to leave in the best conditions, it is important to be well prepared. And it is through three live videos that the essential themes for this long cruise will be addressed.

The choice of the ideal sailboat

The first session of this training, which will last us the whole month of April, took place this Sunday, April 5 at 6:00 pm. Find the replay on YouTube .

This episode concerns the choice of the right sailboat to take this course, and more broadly, how to draw up specifications for the choice of a sailboat. This training course goes back over all the points to be taken into account before embarking on the purchase of a sailboat in order to determine the purchase criteria.

A collaborative training

Because it is all together that we will embark towards the Azores, it is you who will define the criteria of our ideal yacht. Through a questionnaire, define your program and your needs . Katell will then choose the yacht that best suits the majority of the answers.

Two sessions to add to your agenda?!

At the next session - Thursday, April 9, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. - (still live and interactive) you will discover the sailboat chosen collectively for this cruise. Once the boat is defined, it must be equipped for this offshore cruise: security, electronics, sails, but also pharmacy and supplies. All these subjects about the equipment of a sailboat will be discussed during this second hour of training.

Once the yacht has been purchased and equipped, it is time to plan the departure date. This will depend on the weather conditions. Analyses and decision making will allow us to define the best departure time for the cruise to be the most beautiful. This analysis will be the subject of the 3rd training session.

To make sure you don't miss anything, don't forget to book the next two dates in your diary:

Live #2 : How to equip and provision a sailboat for a cruise of 15 jours??

Starts: Thursday, April 9, 2020 - 6:00 p.m

Duration: about 1 hour

Live #3 : Managing the weather for a big cruise

Starts: Sunday, April 12, 2020 - 6:00 p.m

Duration: about 1 hour

Daily shifts during the crossing

At last we'll cast off! From the date of departure - scheduled around April 15th - you will be able to follow a daily video logbook of about 10 minutes. In addition to monitoring the boat's progress, these sessions will deal with a different theme specific to the situations that can be encountered at sea on this type of crossing (freighters, watch, watch...). Enough time to review and learn about all the events that can occur during offshore sailing.
