Deep-sea cruiser training, we're clear of the lines!

After more than a week of training, our sailboat a Sunshine 38 named Suhaili cast off (virtually) from Brest to reach the Azores on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. Continue your training by following her crossing and discover practical cases. For the others, do not hesitate to (re)view the videos, available until 30 April 2020.

At the beginning of April 2020, in partnership with the website "Les Tutos de la Croisière", we launched a free interactive training course on deep-sea cruises. The objectif?? Reaching Brest in the Azores with a crew on a sailboat, a long navigation of 1?200 miles.

But don't leave unexpectedly who désire?! A cruise is something to prepare, and even more so an offshore cruise, far from the coasts and shelters where one could find refuge. So we have set up three training sessions broadcast live on YouTube to draw up the plan for this crossing.

To be seen and at revoir?!

For those who weren't present live or those who are just discovering the project now, don't panic, the videos are to be replayed until April 30, 2020.

Summary of training

Live #1 : Definition of specifications to choose our sailboat for this crossing of about 10 days.

Following this first sale, the public was able to fill in a questionnaire (its own specifications), allowing the majority of the answers to define the model of our boat. We stopped on a Sunshine 38, named Suhaili (from the same name as the yacht on which Robin-Knox Johnston completed the first circumnavigation of the world in 1969).

Live #2 Discovery of the "to-do-list" to equip and provision your sailboat for a crossing of 1?200 miles.

Safety, comfort, leisure, DIY, food... We've come to realise that preparing a sailing boat for a cruise on the high seas is not easy and that nothing should be left to chance.

Live #3 : Weather and routing

In this last training session, we studied the charts and the weather (on Windy) in order to determine the best route, choose the day of departure and forecast our sailing time according to the weather conditions we will encounter.

These data also enabled the crew - made up of 4 seasoned sailors - to reach Camaret-sur-Mer, in Finistère (don't worry, we respect the government recommendations, this is indeed a virtual cruise) on Monday evening, April 13 to prepare for the big departure.

Daily Vacations: Follow the navigation and analyze the situations encountered

We cast off this Tuesday, April 14 at 8:00 a.m. to reach the Azores. From now on, every evening at 6 p.m., live on YouTube (you can of course watch them in replay), come and watch a 10-minute session to follow the progress of our boat.

It will also be an opportunity to explain the situations encountered (virtually always) in dedicated topics (keeping a watch, managing cargo ships, managing technical incidents...).
