Passe-Coque, a solidarity association that gives new life to abandoned boats

Passe-Coque is an association that was created to give a second wind to boats that are no longer used by their owners. Its president, Pierre-Jean Jannin, explains the concept of the association and the projects in progress

Transmitting and reviving is useful navigation

Our coastline is littered with derelict boats. Lack of time, money or life accident, some owners no longer manage to sail their boat

Passe-Coque was created to facilitate the transmission and availability of boats in a situation of abandonment or waiting to be deconstructed, within the framework of solidarity and volunteer projects. Transmitting and rebuilding is useful sailing.

Passe-Coque's principle is to fight against waste by promoting the circular economy. Why spend resources on buying new when you can recycle ships that are still seaworthy?

Association Passe-Coque

A wide variety of boats and programs

This does not mean that we have to recover all the wrecks that line our bodies of water. Only boats that are tired but still seaworthy can be taken care of. Passe-Coque is primarily looking for sailing boats, but also motor boats or vessels for professional use.

The rehabilitation projects are as varied as the destinations

  • A JOD 35 has already been refitted and is currently sailing at the Océane sailing school in Morbihan.
  • A Cognac, the famous Harlé plan, is currently being restored for the association Jeunesse et Marine.
  • Two sailing boats are planned for the Merchant Navy officer cadets of the Abidjan Naval Academy, in order to make them aware of sailing.
  • a partnership is underway with another association, Nav Solidaire, whose objective is to recover, recycle and distribute lower and upper limb prostheses to populations without access to these medical devices.
  • A sailboat is to be sent to the sailing school in Puerto-William, Patagonia, where Bernard de Ravignan, co-founder of Passe Coque, is currently sailing.

How to help Passe-Coque?

Passe-Coque was imagined by a group of sailing friends, Bernard de Ravignan and Pierre-Jean Jannin, but also Antoine Dequidt, Stéphane Menuet and Regis Germain. All professionals working in the nautical and merchant marine industries, the five of them have more than a century of experience and maritime adventures between them

? We have set up a technical network allowing us to efficiently welcome these boats within Passe-Coque, but also to set up the reception modalities with the organizations and companies that will help us in the refit. Already the association Yacht du patrimoine, the company Nautipark, the Banque Populaire de l'Ouest and some maritime high schools have already responded) ", explains Pierre-Jean

? But we are still looking for sponsors or technical partners for :

  • Helping us to make an inventory of boats that could benefit from such a program (we are not strictly closed to sailing boats, as many motor boats could find "pro" outlets in emerging countries)
  • temporary storage facilities (onshore, afloat)
  • Put in place the necessary equipment: bers, deck fittings, etc.
  • But also financial (institutional and private) to get started

To do so, a participatory financing operation was set up (see link below).

In addition, of course, we pay the "donating owners" in the form of tax receipts, as the association is recognised as being of public utility. ?
