The end of the doldrums for Sébastien Rogues, a moment of pure happiness at the helm of his trimaran

In this podcast, Sébastien Rogues describes the pleasure he takes when his trimaran Multi 50 crashes into the trade winds. At that moment, he realises the course he has completed to arrive at this precise moment, at the exit of the doldrums.

I'm Sébastien Rogues, skipper of the Primonial trimaran and I'm going to tell you perhaps my greatest moment of happiness on a boat. It's 2019. In the Transat Jacques Vabre, we're coming out of the doldrums after a battle with the clouds, the calms and so on... The trade winds are coming back and there we are on this trimaran, which is 15 metres long and 15 metres wide, hurtling towards Brazil.

This moment is for me a moment of intense happiness for several things: the first is the machine that is just extraordinary. You often reach amazing speeds often on a runner, that is to say on a single hull, so the boat is launched at around 25 - 30 knots. It's a double happiness because it's the moment when I realised perhaps clearly the dream I was having, which was to make an oceanic multihull! A lot of effort was required of me just like everyone else, but to arrive at this precise moment to be on his boat launched in extraordinary conditions with sun and wind on this overpowering machine that gives you a crazy feeling. At that precise moment I took the time to understand what was happening to me and to feel a truly extraordinary happiness.
