Arrival of the Jacques Vabre 2019, a great pleasure for Pierre-Louis Attwell

In a race, the fun isn't just at the finish. It's also when you retrace the path to get there. In this podcast, Pierre-Louis Attwell tells us about his joy upon his arrival in Brazil during the Transat Jacques Vabre 2019 after 19 days at sea.

I'm Pierre-Louis Attwell. I am 23 years old. I'm the skipper of the Class40 Vogue with a Crohn. If I have a moment of ecstasy at sea to tell you about, perhaps it's a moment that happened on the Transat Jacques Vabre 2019. With my co-skipper Antoine Calliste crossed the Atlantic for the first time. This Transat Jacques Vabre was one of our first big races, it was our first Atlantic crossing. We were going a little bit towards the unknown with this first Transat Jacques Vabre. We must also not forget that we are amateurs. So even being at the start of this race was already a victory. To have managed to bring together a network of partners, a team around our project to go all the way and experience the challenge of crossing the Atlantic in a race. It was already something, but during the transatlantic crossing we obviously had to face the bad weather at times, or on the contrary the flat calm in the doldrums. We had a lot of material problems, particularly with the engines and energy production. We had a lot of problems with the electronics as well. We tore sails. We really had to fight to get to the end of this Transat Jacques Vabre and when finally after 19 days at sea we reached Salvador de Bahia in the bay and discovered these unknown lands, as we didn't know Brazil. We discover a little bit this country and its colours. It's true that the arrival with the boat after so many days at sea is a very special moment. It also marks the end of this project, which we've been working on for two years now, and for us it's the culmination of the work of our whole team and it's really been a moment of ecstasy that we'll remember for a long time.
